I am an avid fan of Building Blocks: Month by Month Reading and Writing for Kindergarten by Patricia Cunningham and Dorothy P. Hall. We do a Predictable Chart and several activities with the chart each week. On a typical week: Monday: Write the chart Tuesday: Finish the chart, Wednesday: choose several children to come up and find their sentence, and read it using a pointer to track the print, Thursday: Sentence builders...write the words for several sentences on index cards, one word per card, and give words to the children to recreate the sentences (one word per child). Friday, use the sentences to make and illustrate a book. I type up each child’s sentence, cut the words apart, and then they glue the words in the correct order, and illustrate their page. My predictable charts are based off of the book theme for the week.
