I model writing for my class in so many ways. Some of the most fun are with our predictable charts. On Monday and Tuesday of each week, we work as a group to create a predictable chart. For The Enormous Watermelon our chart was "A ______ is enormous". (name). Sometimes I just write the words, while the kids notice things like double letters in the text or letters in their name. They usually also start to see patterns in the repetitive sentences (look how many "enormous's" are on the chart!). Other times I have them echo spell the words with me...they say the letter after I do, as I write each letter. This predictable chart idea is from Month By Month Reading and Writing in Kindergarten by Patricia Cunningham .
A great resource for predictable chart ideas is Predictable Charts: Shared Writing for Kindergarten and First Grade by Dorothy Hall.
