I LOVE Math!

I LOVE teaching math!  Several years ago, I started a journey to become a CGI math teacher.  It changed the way I teach math...as well as the way I think about math!

What is CGI?  That would take a REALLY long time to explain, and there are websites out there that can explain it much better than I can.

The short version:  It's a framework for teaching math in which you take what the child already knows, and build from there.  Children solve problems, and explain how they solve problems, using their own strategies, and learning from each other as the teacher guides their learning to more efficient strategies.

My math time consists of:

  • 10 minute mini-lesson
  • 20 minutes of small group activites
  • 10 minutes of a transitional activity for those that are done (math bins, counting jars, scrolling).

I get LOTS of questions about CGI, and about problem solving, and resources to help in your understanding of how children develop mathematically.  The BEST resource is Children's Mathematics: Cognitive Guided Instruction (link below).
